Why do I have to pay collection fees?
Sometimes we need to send several letters and emails to reach you and offer our help. We may also call you or visit your home to talk in person. Together, we will look for the best solution. All of this involves costs. These costs are also regulated by law, which is why you are required to pay collection fees.
Would you like to check the costs yourself?
If you don’t pay an invoice or if you pay late, you may have to pay collection fees. The law sets the maximum amount for these fees.
The minimum collection fee is €40. If your bill is more than €267 but less than €2,500, you must pay 15% of the outstanding balance. For amounts above €2,500, the percentage becomes gradually lower.
Sometimes 21% VAT is charged on collection fees. This is because the company you are paying does not have to pay VAT itself. For example, you usually don’t pay VAT on rent or tuition fees.
Sending a bailiff would cost hundreds of euros, so we prefer to avoid this. If you would like to know the exact legal costs, you can find more information here.
More information about debt collection costs can be found at schuldinfo.nl and on the government website.
